My “Building a Mosque marginally close to ground zero” post….also gonna throw some Ayn Rand in here….
Are you really that surprised people! Do you know Americans! This is what we do…has there EVER been a time when the ignorant right-wing majority in this country haven’t stirred up trouble over something stupid. I would have been more shocked if they had been like “Oh, you wanna build what….That’s cool go right ahead.” Don’t get me wrong, i love this country as much as a person with no job and no healthcare possibly can. But i still hate the fact that being a “young” country means that we gotta work through a lot of shit. We still have to work through this deeply ingrained and inbred ridiculous sense of manifest density that we still feel is relevant in the 21st century. I’m surprised we still don’t hand out small-pox blankets to 3rd world countries we deem less than us. Ok i’m sorry i shouldn’t say that….and it’s not even that we all feel/think that way. It’s just, like always, a very outspoken few *coughreligiousfolkcough* stir up everything. I think i’m actually gonna go and propose an idea to the city of New York, we should build a castle like wall around ground zero that is entirely made up of christian/catholic churches…i’m sure no one would have a problem with that …right?
As for Ayn Rand and Objectivism. Like all great sociological philosophies it never works because of one main flaw…..people….there is no possible way to make an entire society think the same and work towards the same goal, no matter how great the outcome will be. The best example is Brave New World, where people are grown, brainwashed through their entire childhood and then kept heavily drugged inorder to suppress radicalism. Even then though there were radicals and they were shipped off to an island. But back to Objectivism, in it’a simplest form is all about focusing on yourself and doing that best that you possibly can, don’t devote or give time to another unless it helps you. Which sounds very egotistical, but it should be done with no ego. The end result is that with everyone doing the best that they can the world itself will be improved. An Objectivist government is there to help people work towards this goal, not hinder it….ok at this point i’m rambling and this isn’t really going anywhere…basically all i’m saying is that don’t worry your pretty little heads about objectivism because A) You’re probably to dumb to understand, and B) It will never happen in this country. You should be more worried about the goddamn nazi/muslim/zombie Barack Obama turning this great country into a socialist nightmare!
